OWENSBORO, KY. – Kentucky Wesleyan outscored the University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s basketball team 48-39 in the second half, breaking free from a halftime tie en route to an 83-74 victory Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons, in the midst of a four-game road swing, fall to 10-13 on the season, including 6-8 in the GLVC, while the Panthers improve to 12-11 and 5-9 in the league.
UMSL outscored Kentucky Wesleyan 6-2 to open the second half, pulling away from a 35-35 halftime score to take a 41-37 lead before six straight Panthers points gave the host team a 43-41 lead with 16:34 to play.
Then after a three-point bucket by junior Kelly Mitchell pushed the lead back UMSL’s way at 47-46, the host team scored seven unanswered for a 53-47 lead it wouldn’t relinquish. The Panthers pushed their advantage to eight twice, including 68-60 with 5:47 remaining before the Tritons got within 68-66 on a Lindsey Ransome three-pointer, but UMSL would get no closer.
Sophomore Hailee Deckard led UMSL with a game-high 17 points, while sophomore Caitlyn Moody added 12 points and Mitchell chipped in 10.
The Tritons shot 41.2 percent from the field, while Kentucky Wesleyan hit 52 percent of its shots, including 60 percent (6-of-10) from three-point range, and held a 35-32 rebounding advantage. UMSL owned a 16-8 edge on the offensive end, outscoring the Panthers, 19-13, in second chance points.
Deckard pulled down seven rebounds and recorded two steals, while senior Kristi White dished out seven assists and tallied three steals.
UMSL returns to action Thursday, traveling to Rockhurst in a 5:30 p.m. contest. Go Back
