Women's Soccer Tabbed Seventh in Preseason GLVC Poll

INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis women’s soccer team has been picked to finish seventh in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll, as announced today by the league office.

Quincy is the preseason favorite to win the title, garnering 134 total points, including six first-place votes, and was closely followed by Drury, who totaled 130 points and five first-place votes. Northern Kentucky, picked to finish third, received one first-place vote and finished with 120 total points.

Wisconsin-Parkside was tabbed fourth (105), while Indianapolis was picked fifth with 103 points and received the final first-place vote.

Rockhurst (92), Missouri-St. Lois (72), Bellarmine (71), Southern Indiana (53), Lewis (49), Saint Joseph’s (43), Missouri S&T (33) and Kentucky Wesleyan (12) round out the poll.

UMSL, under the direction of first-year interim head coach Thom Champion, returns 13 letterwinners, including six starters from last year's 12-7-3 team, which advanced to the championship game of the GLVC Tournament. The Tritons lost in penalty kicks to Drury.

UMSL opens the 2008 season with an exhibition game at Southeast Missouri State on August 17 before the regular season kicks off at Tiffin (Ohio) August 29.
