October 27, 2007SPRINGFIELD, MO., October 27, 2007 – Junior Christy Trame (Highland, Ill./Highland) tied a career-high 30 kills to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis volleyball team to a 3-2 victory at Drury Saturday in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The win moved the Tritons ahead of Drury and into third place in the GLVC West standings and improved their ledger to 13-17 overall and 9-8 in conference play. Drury fell to 15-11, including 8-8 in the GLVC, while slipping to fourth in the West Division standings.
The win also kept a GLVC Tournament bid alive for UMSL heading into the final week of regular season action. The top three teams in each division and two wild card teams will advance to the GLVC Tournament to be held Nov. 9-11.
Trame committed just six errors in 61 attempts for a .393 hitting percentage and reached double figures in kills for the 14th straight contest. It was also the seventh time this season she recorded 20 or more kills in a match.
Trame also finished with a game-high seven blocks as the Tritons out blocked the Panthers, 12-8.
Junior Chelsea Baumstark (Hermann, Mo./Hermann) added 17 kills for the Tritons, who hit .198 in the contest. Drury finished the match hitting at a .246 clip.
Junior Lisa Brinker (Washington, Mo./Washington) dished out 65 assists, while seniors Claudia Mediana (Las Cruces, N.M./Las Cruces) and Heather Nichols (Black Earth, Wis./Edgewood) each tallied 19 digs. Medina also notched 11 kills for a double-double.
The match took more than three and a half hours to complete due to a power outage. The power at Drury went out after the second game and the match had to be moved to a local high school to be completed.
UMSL returns to action Tuesday when they head to Missouri-Rolla.
