July 07, 2008INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis’ Leslie Ricker, who completed a four-year stellar career last year with the women’s basketball team, has been named a recipient of the NCAA’s Division II Degree-Completion Award.
The NCAA established the Division II Degree-Completion Award Program in 2001. The purpose of the award program is to provide financial assistance to deserving student-athletes with completion of a first baccalaureate degree. Recipients are students who have exhausted their athletics eligibility and have received athletics financial aid.
Ricker, who ranks seventh all-time in career rebounds and ninth all-time in career assists at UMSL, will serve as a student assistant for head coach Lisa Curliss-Taylor during the 2008-09 season, while completing her degree in elementary education.
The selection process for the national award emphasizes the academic performance of the student-athlete. Other factors considered are financial circumstances, athletic achievement and involvement in campus and community activities. Return To Articles
