 August 06, 2008INDIANAPOLIS, IND. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer team has been picked to finish 10th in the Great Lakes Valley Conference preseason poll, as announced today by the league office.
Northern Kentucky, the defending GLVC regular season champion, has been chosen as the favorite to claim the 2008 title. The Norse totaled 132 total points, including four first-place votes, edging Lewis, who tallied 130 total points and picked up six first-place votes.
Rockhurst was tabbed third 123 total points, collecting two first-place votes. They were followed by Indianapolis (98) and Wisconsin-Parkside, which received the final first-place vote and recorded 92 total points.
Quincy followed closely behind in sixth place with 91 total points. Drury (87 total points) finished seventh in the voting and was followed by Bellarmine (85), Missouri S&T (53), Missouri-St. Louis (50), Southern Indiana (34), Saint Joseph’s (26) and Kentucky Wesleyan (13).
UMSL, under the direction of eighth-year head coach Dan King, returns 21 letterwinners, including all 11 starters from last year’s 8-10-1 squad, which finished 10th in the GLVC regular season.
UMSL opens the 2008 season with a pair of exhibition games before kicking off the regular season against Saginaw Valley in Soccer Bowl XV, hosted by Quincy, August 29.
