LOUIS, MO. – University of Missouri-St. Louis men’s soccer head coach Dan King has announced the commitments of Corey Kossman (St. Charles, Mo.), Michael McCarthy (Florissant, Mo.) and John O’Mara (St. Charles, Mo.) to join the Tritons soccer team beginning with the 2008-09 academic year.
“This is an outstanding group of student-athletes that have committed to the UMSL men’s soccer program,” said King. “We look forward to them excelling in the classroom and on the field during their careers at UMSL.”
Kossman played the last two seasons at Meramec Community College in St. Louis, helping the team to the 2007 conference championship. He recorded 10 goals and six assists on the season while earning first team all-conference and first team all-region honors.
Kossman prepped at CBC High School, where he led the team to the 2005 state championship. He also played club soccer for the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, winning state championships in 2004, 2005 and 2007.
“Corey is very skilled on both sides of the ball – both defensively and offensively,” said King. “He is a very intense player who can score the big goal when needed.”
McCarthy earned first team all-state honors at Chaminade High School this season, helping the team to a No. 1 spot in the national rankings during the regular season. He served as captain and was named MVP on a team that finished with a 22-4 record. He also earned first team all-metro, first team all-conference and first team all-area honors and led the team with seven assists.
McCarthy also plays for the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, winning state championships in 2006 and 2007.
“Michael is a very intelligent player,” said King. “He’s also very good on the ball and has a good feel for the game.”
O’Mara is a two-time first team all-state selection from Duchesne High School and was also named his team’s Offensive Player of the Year as a senior.
He also plays for the Scott Gallagher Soccer Club, winning state championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
“John is another player that is very strong on the ball and he is good in the air,” said King. “John also has the ability to score goals in many different ways.” Go Back
