Prestia Helps Baseball to Split; Tritons Get Program Win 999

O’FALLON, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team picked up an 8-2 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against Drury Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at TR Hughes Ballpark, before the Panthers won game two, 7-3.

Senior Linds Prestia improved to 3-1 on the season, pitching the complete seven-inning game in the opener. He gave up just two runs on six hits, while striking out six and walking three.

The win was also the 999th in UMSL baseball program history.

The Tritons recorded eight runs on nine hits, including a three-run homer by senior Ryan Ayers in the fourth to give UMSL a 6-0 lead. It was his first homerun of the season. Ayers finished game with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with three RBIs and two runs scored. Freshman Manny Flores added a pair of singles.

Drury rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the nightcap en route to the win in the nine-inning second game. The Panthers tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth before scoring four runs in the seventh inning.

Sophomore Justin Rodgers took the loss on the mound, giving up four runs on seven hits in six innings of work.

Senior Mark Sanders pitched in relief, working three innings, while giving up three runs on three hits.

Flores went 3-for-5 at the plate, while junior Ryan Gray went 2-for-4. Senior Jake Kelehan recorded two RBIs.

UMSL moved its record to 7-11, including 2-5 in the GLVC, while Drury now stands at 13-8 overall and 4-3 in the league.

UMSL returns to action Monday at noon hosting Saint Joseph’s in a doubleheader at TR Hughes Ballpark.
