GAME TWO
EVANSVILLE, IND. – Steve Porter went 4-for-9 with two runs scored and seven RBIs to help the University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team to a split at Southern Indiana Saturday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
The Tritons dropped the opener, 10-7, but came back for a 6-3 win in game two.
Porter recorded a three-run home run, two two-run doubles, two runs and six RBIs in the first game as UMSL moves to 16-23 overall, including 10-15 in the GLVC. Southern Indiana now stands at 33-14 and 21-5 in the league.
Southern Indiana scored five times in the third inning of the first game to take a 5-0 lead before UMSL got on the board in the fourth inning with a pair of runs.
Porter doubled down the right field line to score Ryan Ayers, while Scott Lavelock doubled to right center, scoring Porter.
The Screaming Eagles added another five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before Porter delivered a two-run double to left center in the fifth to make the score 10-4.
Porter then connected for a three-run home run in the seventh inning for the final score.
Linds Prestia worked three innings on the hill for the Tritons and took the loss, giving up nine runs on eight hits.
Ryan Gray went 4-for-4 in the second game to help UMSL erase a 2-0 deficit en route to the win.
Lavelock scored on a Zach Sheets sacrifice fly in the fourth inning to make the score 2-1 before the Tritons scored three times in the sixth inning to take a 5-1 lead they would not relinquish.
Kyle Hargis singled to left field scoring Gray, while Nico Gregali tripled to center field, scoring Hargis and Sheets.
Southern Indiana added a run in the seventh before Mark Sanders homered in the ninth and Ayers crossed the plate on Porter double for the final score.
Justin Rodgers recorded the win, while John Kalb got the save. Rodgers pitched seven and two-thirds innings, scattering five hits and striking out five.
UMSL and Southern Indiana close out the series tomorrow at 1 p.m.
