Baseball Shut Out in Game One, Wins Game Two, 4-1

ST. LOUIS, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team split a pair of games against visiting Rockhurst Sunday afternoon in Great Lakes Valley Conference action at TR Hughes Ballpark. The Tritons lost the opener 6-0, but came back to win the nightcap, 4-1.

Rockhurst’s Frank Allen threw a three-hitter and allowed just four UMSL runners to reach base during the seven-inning first game.

Senior Kyle Hargis took the loss for the Tritons, pitching six and two-thirds innings and allowing 10 hits. The hurler struck out nine batters.

In the second game, UMSL scored single runs in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh innings en route to the win. Senior Eric Kuntz advanced to third on a single by senior Mark Sanders and then reached home on an error by the Hawks’ shortstop for the first run of the game. Senior Cole Williams then advanced junior Andy Ford home in the fourth inning, while Ford singled in the sixth to score senior Steve Porter. Senior Nico Gregali recorded an RBI sacrifice fly in the seventh to score Williams.

Senior Brady Decker recorded the win on the mound, working eight innings, while scattering seven hits and striking out six. Junior John Kalb picked up the save – his team-leading fourth of the season.

Ford paced the offense with a 2-for-4 performance at the plate with an RBI and run scored.

Rockhurst out-hit UMSL, 7-5, but stranded eight runners on base, while the Tritons left just two men on.

UMSL now stands at 15-20, including 9-13 in the GLVC, while Rockhurst stands at 16-27, including 8-16 in league play.

UMSL returns to action Wednesday at Wisconsin-Parkside.
