O’FALLON, MO. – The University of Missouri-St. Louis baseball team scored two runs in the bottom of the eight inning to turn a one-run deficit into a 4-3 victory over Bellarmine Wednesday afternoon at TR Hughes Ballpark.
Senior Steve Porter tied the game at 3-3 when junior Ryan Gray reached on a fielder’s choice to score Porter. Sophomore designated hitter Zach Sheets then drove in junior Andy Ford with a single to right field for the game winner.
UMSL snapped a six-game losing streak with the win while improving to 12-19 overall. Bellarmine fell to 22-15.
Porter finished the game with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate, including two doubles and two runs scored. Ford went 3-for-3 with an RBI double and a run scored. UMSL out-hit the Knights, 10-6.
Sophomore J.C. Schute got the start on the mound, working five innings. The hurler gave up just two hits while fanning five. Senior Eric Kuntz picked up the win, while senior John Kalb recorded the save.
UMSL returns to action Friday night, hosting Rockhurst at 7 p.m. in the start of a four-game series at TR Hughes Ballpark.
