ELSAH, ILL. - The University of Missouri-St. Louis women's tennis team won five of six singles matches to earn a 5-4 victory over Southern Indiana Sunday.
After being swept in doubles play, the Tritons recorded the match win with a strong singles showing to improve to 3-0 on the season. Southern Indiana lost its first match of the year, falling to 2-1.
Junior Stephanie Thompson recorded a 7-5, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles, while sophomore Pujitha Bandi was a 6-0, 6-4 winner at No. 2. At No. 3 singles, junior Aya Gombo was a 6-1, 6-1 winner, while sophomore Leticia Garcia claimed a 3-6, 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4. Freshman Kristiana Lazarova closed out the Tritons victories with a hard fought 6-4, 7-6 (19-17) win at No. 6.
